Morning walkPosted by Duncan Galbraith (kyoto, Japan) on 13 February 2007 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Early morning, Kameoka City, Japan. Shuva made a point about yesterdays shot not being very 'Duncany' (love that phrase, cheers Shuva!). To be honest I thought yesterdays wasnt really a break from my norm, so this one should suffice as a significant change from the 'Duncany' pattern. Might be back in the groove tomorrow though, the morning frost almost killed me.

@Stu: Cheers Man. a bit grim at this time of day but worth a walk about i reckon. Bronnie from Christchurch, New ZealandLove it, love it - and as for being 'Duncan' - well, everything I've seen makes me go green with envy, and this one does too - so it's Duncany enough for me!! Careful with that frost though... 13 Feb 2007 9:16am @Bronnie: Cheers Bronnie. you're very kind and its much appreciated. thanks again. Manuela Photography from Hainburg (near Frankfurt/Main), GermanyGreat mood & impressive tones of grey! 13 Feb 2007 9:17am @Manuela Photography: thanks manuela! @Maoya: Thanks Maoya, the frost was a killer too ;) Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, AustraliaGreat post-processing; the green tint in the atmosphere reinforces the metallic/artificial/grimy atmosphere of industry. 13 Feb 2007 10:06am @Chris Sullivan: Cheers Chris! Much appreciated! Jahdi from Leeds, United KingdomWowser, man. Like this a lot. I almost expect Solid Snake to try infiltrating it... 13 Feb 2007 12:42pm @Jahdi: hehe! Revolver Ocelot can be seen far left frame...you have to squint a bit to see him, but he's there! cheers man! Mike Cash from Kiryu, JapanMasterfully done. Perfectly Duncany. I know what you mean about being out in the cold. Often I arrive in Tokyo in the wee hours of the morning with a few predawn hours to kill while I wait....and I say "Screw it! It's too cold outside!" Looking forward to the spring. 13 Feb 2007 1:37pm @Mike Cash: Roll on spring Mike...Im with you there! @Daniel: I acknowledge your desire to see this brighter and in black and white, but to be honest I'm most satisfied with my choice of time and treatment. The sole purpose of shooting this at this time was in order to catch the light and the colours it brought out at the time. Brighter would have been a misrepresentation of the image to my mind. Black and white wasnt something which interested me for this shot for the aforementioned reasons. Thanks for the critique. John Hartman from Kyoto, JapanI was out near Kameoka earlier today... I really enjoy the open spaces out there. 13 Feb 2007 3:19pm @John Hartman: Hey man, if you ever get out this way again give me a buzz dude! objectif-plume from Belgiumj'aime les sites industriels en photo. et tu utilise une couleur idéale 13 Feb 2007 4:23pm @objectif-plume: Merci beaucoup objectif-plume! Alfredo J. Martiz J. from Tokyo, JapanReally cool shot Duncan, there is something attractive about this industrial sites... but they are dangerous and harmful for the environment, yes I know... sort of Fatal Attraction! 13 Feb 2007 4:33pm @Alfredo J. Martiz J.: nice reading Alfredo, I like it! Fatal Attraction indeed! Prem from Mumbai, IndiaGreat gloomy shot. Liked the little shake in there. Leveling on the left is needed I guess. Keeping the main object on the far left is interesting. What industry is this? How is finepix camera? Need some review abt the camera!!! 13 Feb 2007 6:09pm @Prem: Hey Prem! thanks mate. Finepix is ok...Im grateful for its versatility but for night time shots its lacking. Longest exposure available is only 4 seconds. For the price it's astounding value though. Still from Valence, FranceNot your style perhaps but an interesting and worry atmosphere! 13 Feb 2007 7:18pm @Still: Thanks Still! @jennifer radio: Thanks Jennifer! Colour blind from Tokyo, JapanIf you're taking photos like this don't go back to your "Duncany" style just yet. Keep it up with your current burst of creativity. 13 Feb 2007 11:58pm @Colour blind: Thanks Kelly. I cant promise you too many shots like this im afraid..Im usually tucked up in bed when the lights this interesting! Michael Zhang from New York City, United StatesThis mood is amazing. So ominous and brooding - post processing and the great lighting make this a winner. 14 Feb 2007 1:48am @Michael Zhang: Thanks Michael! Michelle Bialowas from Melbourne Victoria, AustraliaWonderful colours, wonderful composition. How did you achieve such lovely tones? Your blog is a treat. 14 Feb 2007 2:46am @Michelle Bialowas: THank you Michelle! I shot this in RAW mode, initially hoping to capture that early morning 6am light where everything casts those long shadows and the tones are really apparant to the eye. The camera didnt do such a good job though. I initially duplicated the layer, filter>render lighting>2 oclock spotlight (22, 50, -70, -60, 0, 20). Then filter>distort>diffuse glow (0, 7, 15. I made sure the background colour was set to a lightish yellow, to try and replicate the early morning light). I lightened via levels tool a wee bit, tweaked brightness contrast a tad, and burned in and dodged the odd area which needed it. Makoto from Sapporo, JapanI like such subject. Nice take and great processing. "Mega beautiful!" 14 Feb 2007 12:20pm @Makoto: Cheers Makoto! @jc: Cheers man! Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaThe mighty grain elevator looks like the leader in the coming robot invasion. Dramatic lighting! 14 Feb 2007 7:00pm @Damon Schreiber: Thanks Damon. It does look rather ominous doesnt it. Dont worry about the invasion, Ultramans always close at hand to see off guys like this ;) |
