The Downs #1 - The Stare-DownPosted by Duncan Galbraith (kyoto, Japan) on 9 January 2007 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. This is obviously Ewan-kun. AM3 members will no doubt be acquainted with him by now. He's an awful model. He really is. Awful in the sense that if sees a camera he'll run a mile. This is him midstep, possibly a nano-second prior to aforementioned run. I tell you, he's hard work. Again my apologies for prolonged abscence here on AM3. I will be catching up with everyone as soon as possible.

jc from Tokyo, Irelandnice one, darker shot of ewan than normal - it's quite foreboding .. 9 Jan 2007 9:58am Srinivas Koduri from Visakhapatnam, IndiaHe might be an awful model. But i think this photograph(and of course the photographer) is(are) Awesome. gr8 portrait as usual. 9 Jan 2007 10:34am Paul Ricciardi from West Hartford, United Statesstriking portrait, very nicely processed. 9 Jan 2007 4:05pm Craig Persel from Montreal, CanadaVery rich. Again, great composition and processing. 9 Jan 2007 4:12pm Maoya from Rolle, SwitzerlandHa ha! I know what it's like having a camera happy dad chasing you around. Have the same problem. Watch out Duncan, we get our pay back!^^ Anyways beautiful shot. Love the movement in the hair and the light. 9 Jan 2007 5:03pm Nick Chase from Santa Rosa, California, United StatesIronic perspective, usually we older folks are looking down on the child. This shot definately creates a certain vulnerable feeling. Nice composition too. 9 Jan 2007 5:44pm Adiemus from Christchurch, New ZealandOoooh!lovely colours! Yes, we do get our own back. Mind you, think of his 21st party!!! all those shots you can flash about - remind him of this when he's 14 and stroppy from Hurricane Hormones. Nice to have you back! 9 Jan 2007 5:55pm Still from Valence, FranceSuperb portrait of a youg conqueror! Tender shot on childhood! 9 Jan 2007 8:42pm Lyndsey Le from Houston, TX, United StatesGood job on catching up with your model Ewan-kun! Love the way he posed ... very stylish! Cheers. 9 Jan 2007 9:23pm micki from United StatesHey, you got him!! That's a great catch for one of those "runners." 9 Jan 2007 9:53pm Darren from JapanNice shot there Duncan. He looks like a model for some clothing brand or maybe a super hero waiting to join Dragon Ball 10 Jan 2007 12:45am Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, AustraliaHaha, cool shot; looks like the popular 'beat-down' shot so often used in hiphop video clips. Excellent use of understated colours, makes for a really great atmosphere 10 Jan 2007 1:07am Michael Zhang from New York City, United StatesOhh great use of the glorifying low angle. 10 Jan 2007 1:52am Nicola-Frank from Québec, Canadalovely, subtle low-tones light. The wind in the hairs makes beautiful movements. I love how the face, and the red coat shines through this monochrome setting. 10 Jan 2007 1:56am @Nicola-Frank: Thanks so much! as I said to sean, I got rather lucky with the capture! Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaHeroic! This portrait is crazy-good: Ewan the Konqueror! The look is disdainful, the pose majesterial, and the red coat commands attention amidst the gathering storm. I'm guessing you did a fair bit of lighting effects and whatnot to achieve such a look, and I'm cool with that if it works, and it does. Anyway, put it on an album cover and you'll sell a million copies even if it's just him banging the drum. 10 Jan 2007 3:17am @Damon Schreiber: haha! ewan the Konqueror! love that! a bit of lighting effects used but not excessively so, diffused it a tad and thats about it, I deliberatley set exposure on the sky. Curves, levels, and saturation layers all used to some extent but most of the processing was on his face to bring out the details of the half silhouette. All in all, it was a most enjoyable excursion into PS land (a land im not entirely comfortable with quite yet). And if the album sells a million, I'll make sure you get your cut. Evelyn from New Milford, United StatesGive him a fireman's hat, and he'll be a regular little hero! Not much to say that hasn't been said already, but I really admire you for being able to picture a loved one in such a new light. 10 Jan 2007 3:20am @Evelyn: thanks evelyn! he's into 'fireman sam' at the moment actually so a most apt comment! @Ash: cheers Ash! @Martine Lapointe: ;) thanks martine! Eduardo from Santaigo, ChileInquietante retrato. Bien logrado si esa era la idea. Felicidades. 10 Jan 2007 8:09pm @Eduardo: muchas gracias eduardo! Angry Buddha from United StatesNice job on this Duncan. He looks like he's on an album cover or something. 10 Jan 2007 9:20pm @Angry Buddha: Cheers Sean, got lucky with this one...ask me to do a reshoot and you'd get woeful results he moves so quick! Matt Trujillo Photography from Portland, United StatesDude- Anime. Period. It looks like he's about to toss a fire-ball at my head. Don't show him this image until he's over 21. Cheers. 11 Jan 2007 12:50am @Matt Trujillo Photography: lol! ;) cheers matt! Visions by Dean Christopher. from Cardiff, United KingdomI`m inspired...great shot! 11 Jan 2007 12:57pm @Visions by Dean Christopher.: Cheers so much Dean! @Sheldon Hull: he has dramatic turns thats for sure! keeping him still long enough to capture them is the tricky bit! |
