Coin Laundry 1 - Cigarette Smoker GirlPosted by Duncan Galbraith (kyoto, Japan) on 8 December 2006 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. Now I'm not sure how long this wee series is going to run, certainly for two posts, possibly more. Thanks for the visit. Hope you enjoy. And above all else I'd like to thank all those who've visited the blog and left comments...you've made me smile from ear to ear from day to day. It's seriously appreciated. Looking forward to your comments and constructive criticism again, and obviously, all of your pictures. keep on shooting.

H.O from Victoria, CanadaOh,I though that is boy... I'm long time didn't go back to Japan...:) 8 Dec 2006 5:48am @H.O: Thanks H.O. Have a cracking weekend mate. MnX from PARIS, FranceI love it! There's something weird about the color of her face or is it my eyes? 8 Dec 2006 8:15am @MnX: mmm. Ive had a good look and I cant see any weird face colour, alhtough the hat is obviously saturated. But then again my monitor isnt to be trusted! @Prashanth: Thanks Prasanth. be careful of those bison...they're having a good look at you! wanganeges from concord, ma, United Statesthanks for your last visit too duncan and your nice comments ... this is another great shot from you. i really like the different angle and the richness of the color ... wonderful! 8 Dec 2006 11:17am @wanganeges: Thanks wanganeges! Thanks for the comms also...always appreciated! youve got a fine portfolio. anyone who hasnt seen it should go there right now. Suby from Milton Keynes, United KingdomI like the stripe colours on her track bottom, good angle you took the shot from, makes a mundame image look even more interesting. Suby 8 Dec 2006 12:58pm @Suby: Cheers Suby. Much appreciated. @Makoto T: Hey makoto. I have a flippable lcd which is handy for these sitautions. Darren from JapanGreat shot mate. The colourful stripes look really neat and the angle is great. I really like shots taken from low positions. 8 Dec 2006 1:43pm @Darren: Aye Im a bit of a low shot fan myself. Cracking shot today mate, just dont forget to bring that boat of yours over this way one time. Maoya from Rolle, SwitzerlandSome crazy colours you have going on there... I like pictures that remind me that you see things in a pretty interesting way, when you're like a lug on the floor. 8 Dec 2006 1:48pm @Maoya: Yeah I felt like breaking the mould a bit to be honest Maoya...ive been in a very 'black and white' / realistic colour mood of late and felt like doing something a little bit different to be honest. Tomorrows post is one step further... @Martine Lapointe: Cheers Martine. wonderful macro shot today, really nice detail and clarity. What camera do you use btw? @Daniel: Thanks daniel. Cheers for the visit. Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaI've nothing but praise for this one, Duncan. Beautiful colours, perspective and mood! Gotta love those flippable LCD screens. I take it your model was complicit. 8 Dec 2006 2:28pm @Damon Schreiber: Aye, it kind of helped to walk around taking photos of absolutely everything in there prior to shooting the subject. I was photographing the coin slots and anything in front of me (with no intention of using them), but it kind of took the focus off the subject(s) (there are more to come). This was candid, although tomorrows post wasn't posed but consent to shoot was given. Think they thought they had some kind of laundrymat Otaku on their hands! @badala: Thanks so much badala! Ryan Yam from Quezon City, PhilippinesCool shot! At first I thought the one in the photo was a guy :) I like the colors that pop out from her jeans. They really make the photo that much more interesting. 8 Dec 2006 2:41pm @Ryan Yam: Cheers Ryan. Wanted to do something a little different from my normal type stuff. I'm glad you like it. Colour blind from Tokyo, JapanVery nice shot of colours mate!!! You've caught this girl in a pretty wicked pozzi!! Complete bordome is what springs to mind when I saw this girl just sitting and waiting for her clothes to finish...but then the whole picture shouted excitement and wow from the colours. Lovely contrast!! 8 Dec 2006 3:12pm @Colour blind: Thanks Colourblind. Wanted to spice it up a little colourwise and just do something 'fun' if that makes sense. Been ploughing a certain niche for a while and wanted to get out for a while. Only for a while mind;-) Still from VALENCE, FranceI like a lot the details and the coloured ambience of this one. Your framing is very interesting and gives a lot of strength to this portrait. 8 Dec 2006 3:15pm @Still: Thanks Still. I know its a candid but I fancied doing something a bit 'pop' as opposed to the recent images Ive been posting. Stu from Kyoto, Japanbug's-eye view - love it. the colours in the clothes come through strongly - a nice focus. i wonder what she's looking at? Or is it another "zoned" look we're as yet unaware of?! 8 Dec 2006 4:49pm @Stu: Thanks Stu, not really zoned out, more like spun out. Pardon the pun...its a groaner I know. Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgiumnice! I like the boring tones of the laundry machines contrasted with the striped pants and yellow cart in the background. 8 Dec 2006 6:58pm @Jason Kravitz: Cheers Jason. Just trying new stuff out. Just been through your portfolio and cant believe I missed Grasp! You've just spun me out! Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, AustraliaCheers mate. Cool shot, love its candidacy and the saturated colours. The reflected lights in the window also adds some more depth to scene. Loving this series! 8 Dec 2006 9:20pm @Chris Sullivan: Thanks Chris. Your Sorento shots are wonderful btw...That sorento 1 shot just blows me away each time I see it. Mammoth in Chief from Naperville, United StatesVery interesting perspective and subject. I like the rasta pants. I should totally get those :P 8 Dec 2006 10:42pm @Mammoth in Chief: If I see her again, Ill ask her for them mate. @Ayumi K.: Cheers Ayumi, take care of Shanti! M.E. from Encino, United Statesditto - what an interesting perspective. it makes one stop and ask, "what's she looking at?" I went through your photographs, THEY ARE AMAZING! 8 Dec 2006 11:20pm @M.E.: Thank you so much M.E. You have some fine colour work mate. the Baloon shot was inspired. something I'd never have thought of. fine job. Kelvin Chan from New York City, United StatesThe colors are very catching. The stripes on the pants took my eyes on a roller coaster ride; I just can't stop looking at them. But it's taking too much attention away from the face. I see your attempts at trying to reduce the glares on the face and the hand. Although it's usually a bad thing, I would leave it untouched here. Because it's so dim, the pants take away the attention of the viewer. Damn those florescent lights. Otherwise, great angle. A shot DSLR users can't do. 9 Dec 2006 1:03am @Kelvin Chan: Cheers Kelvin. your advice is always constructive and much appreciated. I kind of wanted to say 'to hell with colour! time to mess around a little" and thought I'd just post a few images to kind of get away from what I'd been doing PP-wise. @Sidney: Cheers Sidney. wonderful shots from you as always! If anyone hasnt seen Sidney's site GO THERE NOW. @Tim: Cheers Tim! Your visit is always appreciated mate! Keep on shooting! Michael Zhang from New York City, United StatesThe angle and your audacity are amazing! Sometimes the hardest part about photography is getting those shots of strangers. You've certainly inspired us to reach further! Great shot. 9 Dec 2006 3:48pm @Michael Zhang: Cheers Michael...Thank the lord for flippable lcd screens! Visions by Dean Christopher. from Cardiff, United Kingdomfantastic...very well shot! 10 Dec 2006 11:33am @Visions by Dean Christopher.: Thanks Dean. much appreciated. Michelle Bialowas from Melbourne Victoria, AustraliaThis is the winner for me in this series. 10 Dec 2006 1:00pm @Michelle Bialowas: Thanks Michelle, I wasnt sure how people would take the saturation of this as I purposefully went a little ott. but Im happy people are responding positively. |
