Come in! Try the Takoyaki!Posted by Duncan Galbraith (kyoto, Japan) on 6 December 2006 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio. Sorry but I had to post this. This was outside a restaurant in Gion, Kyoto City and just begged to be taken. Quite why this should prove alluring to customers is unfathomable but thats what I enjoy most about Japan. The longer I stay the more confusing and mysterious it gets. Its like each day you find another piece of the puzzle but the puzzle keeps growing exponentially. Anyway...'enjoy'.

@Daniel: Cheers Daniel. lovely landscape from you again. You have a fine eye. Aaron Schmidt from Auckland, New ZealandHahah! This is great. Would definitely scare me off from trying to steal the deep-friend octopus balls. Then again, I probably wouldn't have been too eager to take them in the first place. 6 Dec 2006 5:32am @Aaron Schmidt: haha...theyre a bit chewy Aaron. definetly an acquired taste. @Stu: Cheers stu. WONDERFUL portrait from you today. An absolute stonker. you're making me want to go to bali. @Prashanth: cheers prasanth! If you fancy any takoyaki Ill send some over. @Gnarf: Thanks Gnarf. Hope your works going well mate. MnX from PARIS, FranceI want to try the Takoyaki!!!! Did you try it? is it good? 6 Dec 2006 10:45am @MnX: Thanks so much MnX. I tend to try and shoot in order to avoid any unneccessary cropping for sure. But I guess thats a universal rule. other than that I dont tend to spend much time mulling it over once I've made up my mind I 'want it'. Maybe I should though. pond365 from Otsu Shiga, Japankorewa issen yoshoku no mise desu ne? 6 Dec 2006 12:33pm @pond365: Hi Pond365! yeah I figured it's a restaurant most people 'pass by' too. Fallenargo from North Bay, CanadaSeems to be an awfully powerful dog to do that to the poor boy. Anyway, unique subject! 6 Dec 2006 1:30pm @Fallenargo: Cheers Fallenargo. definetly a pooch not to be messed with. @Dileep: Thanks dileep. Next time I might venture inside.... Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgiumha - Japan (in my limited experience) can be so conservative in some ways and so outrageous in others. This is a great scene - what's with the puppy under the dog ?! 6 Dec 2006 3:22pm @Jason Kravitz: yup. it's truly bipolar. two oppossing extremes. as for those pups...I have no idea! H.O from Victoria, CanadaOops ! :-o Great chin chin shot. lol 6 Dec 2006 3:29pm @H.O: Thanks H.O. aye, it had to be taken didnt it. ;-) @Shuva: ;) Sylvia from Milano, ItalyI too like the angle, and the way he seems about ready to fall out of the frame into my lap...ICKY..but I also like what you wrote about it. Nothing snarky, just an odd and funny illustration of why you like Japan. 6 Dec 2006 7:21pm @Sylvia: cheers sylvia. aye japans a great place. heartily recommended. Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaGreat capture of a little Japanese visual humour. Culturally, I think Japanese in general find little boys' chin-chin to be quite cute. That explains it for me. Anyway, I was hoping from the thumbnail that this was a real action shot with real people, but I guess that would be asking a bit much. p.s. I love takoyaki (as I should being married to a lass from Osaka). 6 Dec 2006 7:26pm @Damon Schreiber: ah cool...I lived there for a year actually (5 years back)...its a nightmare on the wallet that city...so many distractions but a thoroughly entertaining city. Kyoto suits my advancing years much better ;) @Addey: Cheers addey. I tip my hat to the sculptor. Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, Australiayour right, this shot NEEDED to be taken. hahaha. this one made me laugh, you captured it really well too! 6 Dec 2006 8:51pm @Chris Sullivan: thanks chris. next time the interior will be explored. @Ayumi K.: :-) thanks ayumi! @Martin: thanks for your visit martin. much appreciated. Amit from Santa Clara, CA, United Statesthis is a fun... a funny picture, excellent... 6 Dec 2006 10:45pm @Amit: thanks amit. much appreciated. Mommith in Chief from Naperville, United StatesWow, that's slightly odd... Very funny, though! 6 Dec 2006 11:46pm @Mommith in Chief: odd is the word isnt it. thanks mommoth, take it easy man and looking forward to more from you. @Craiger: Thanks Craiger! its certainly a unique feature. Kelvin Chan from New York City, United StatesHahaha. very nice. Be careful where it is blown out on the guy's leg. I'm very anal about overexposed areas and I try to process a picture to get as much contrast and details without blowing out or blacking out anything. 7 Dec 2006 12:27am @Kelvin Chan: ;) my mind wasnt on the processing here mate, couldnt keep a straight face ;) Darren from Tokyo, JapanThat's a real funny capture mate. Very Japanese. How were the Takoyaki mate? Good? 7 Dec 2006 12:29am @Darren: I have to say I didnt partake of this particular restaurants cuisine...next time...Ill let you know. @Martine Lapointe: Thanks Martine! Colour blind from Tokyo, Japanmmmmm Takoyaki!!! I love them!! This picture is so funny...if I were you I'd go and vandalize the statue a little in a dirty way and then take another picture of it. It's a great picture to show the difference in Japanese culture. fantastic!!! 7 Dec 2006 1:21am @Colour blind: hey colourblind. Thanks for dropping by. Cracking posts from you as usual! @Makoto T: Hey makoto! great landscapes youve been posting! Aya from Kyoto, JapanI know this restaurnt, and I've been there few times. The interior design are so funny and so strange, theire are good thing for to kill in time! 7 Dec 2006 1:33pm @Aya: Hey Aya, next time in Gion, I'll definetly give it a try! @emarquetti: ;) Supers a great word so Ill take it gladly! Although I think the original artist deserves the real round of applause! @Sidney: yup. It still makes me smile! Lynne from Atlanta, United StatesVery funny. It reminds me of the Coppertone ads from the 70s. 14 Dec 2006 4:05am @Lynne: Thanks Lynne. Not seen the coppertone ads but they sound intriguing...Ill hit the net after this and have a browse! |
