Ben from New York City, United StatesI like this; it conveys an emotion. The contrast between the rather thin woman and the chubby guy is brilliant! 29 Nov 2006 5:37am @Ben: Cheers Ben. I was hoping she'd squeeze up a bit to better illustrate the difference in size... H.O from Victoria, CanadaWow,really big guy ! :-) Yokozuna shot !! 29 Nov 2006 6:14am @H.O: Hi H.O! you're riding high in the charts mate! well done again! Claireg from Dendermonde, Belgiumoh this is the frist time that I such a big japanese guy! i love the look on the face of the lady next to him ; 29 Nov 2006 9:00am @Claireg: Thanks Claireg! Aye, possibly the biggest japanese kid Ive ever seen. The picture doesnt do him justice to be honest. His legs were bigger than my waist. wanganeges from concord, ma, United Statesthe expressions are wonderful in this! 29 Nov 2006 11:02am @wanganeges: Thanks wanganeges! most appreciated! Suby from Milton Keynes, United KingdomWow, the guy looks huge, would not want to mess with him. 29 Nov 2006 11:06am @Suby: aye, rest assured, there was no messing from me. Blain from Toride, JapanI love the contrast between the three people here. They seem to form something of a microcosm of the kinds of people you see on a train before the salaryman rush hour. 29 Nov 2006 11:30am @Blain: Yeah, the trains are a real crucible. Each car is a potential goldmine. Great locations. Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, Australiahe's immersed in that book isn't he? like the difference in expressions and posture. excellent shot. 29 Nov 2006 12:34pm @Chris Sullivan: Thanks Chris. It was probably the easiest candid shot Ive ever taken. Immersed is the word. Darren Halliday from Toyko, JapanGentle Giant. Another great capture mate. Looking forward to your next series. 29 Nov 2006 12:53pm @Darren Halliday: Cheers Darren, No series per se lined up at the moment but Ill try and supply some sort of random document of where Im at etc. Keep the Kanto fires burning mate. Peggy Picot from Paris, Francevery nice shot! it's so boring to take the metro or the train! 29 Nov 2006 1:39pm @Peggy Picot: Hi Peggy! I usually try and get on with an objective in mind, whether it be a photograph, a study aim, book chapter, or solution etc. It transforms the ride into a 'journey'. Anyway, take it easy and I'm looking forward to your next post. david from chesham, United Kingdomah, the benefit of a western diet eh? great shot - i like that it shows the universal boredom of a tube train journey! 29 Nov 2006 1:50pm @david: Thanks David, I reckon the tube is a boring commute for many, although for me it's one of the high points of my working day. I dont know if that says more about my job than my enjoyment for trains...either way, its cause for me to take stock... Shuva Brata Deb from Hyderabad, IndiaVery interesting angle that you managed to get. 29 Nov 2006 2:05pm @Shuva Brata Deb: hey Shuva, cheers for the visit. take it easy and thanks for the feedback. Colour blind from Tokyo, JapanGreat work mate!! It's pretty rare to see people of this peportion in TOkyo these days...and the contrast of a bigger guy with the little lady is great!! Just a question though nothing to do with the Picture but how did you get on to VFXY. Please teach me. 29 Nov 2006 4:02pm @Colour blind: Man, I'm on VFXY? crikey I'd forgotten about that..I thought I was still waiting for my confirmation email. Dude, I had no idea it was active, I cant even remember my password etc so I'm stumped...I know I went there ages ago to sign up but I totally forgot about them. I seem to remember signing up and them saying it would take them a few weeks to check my site out and whatever, and theyd contact me when it was active, maybe the activation message went into my spam. Wish I could be more help, but if you hadnt told me I'd be non the wiser. Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaDuncan, I'm digging these train shots immensely! I enjoy his look of concentration compared to the apparent boredom of the ladies around him. His big pants and dangling tie are wonderful, as are the colours. Another delicious slice of life. 29 Nov 2006 4:18pm @Damon Schreiber: Cheers Damon. I actually was in two minds about ending this series as it has potential and I feel I havent really made the most of the opportunity. So it will be revisited in the future. But todays post marks the end for now, due to a promise that has to be kept via tomorrows image. (it will become clear tomorrow). Ryan from CanadaI like the contrast between the two people in this shot. The boredom and rapt attention. The size and clothing difference. Great shot. 29 Nov 2006 7:47pm @Ryan: Cheers Ryan. he was certainly engrossed in his manga. @Daniel: he's got the build for it hasnt he... Kelvin Chan from New York City, United StatesHe probably eats women like these for breakfast. You should come to America; people like these are common around here. Great shot 29 Nov 2006 10:52pm @Kelvin Chan: Cheers Kelvin. Over here guys this big are RARE. Kelvin Chan from New York City, United Statesoh and he's giving you the middle finger. you're just gonna take that from him? 29 Nov 2006 10:53pm @Kelvin Chan: hehe...Now thats something I missed...I'll let it slide just this once, but if I see him again... Michael Zhang from New York City, United StatesI'm glad you were able to get away with this shot! This is an aspect of Japan I've rarely seen. This could be a great photojournalism shot - "Shattering Stereotypes." 30 Nov 2006 2:07am @Michael Zhang: Thanks Michael. Now theres an idea for a series..... H.O from Victoria, CanadaHey Dancan-san, you get in chart too :-o Congraturation!! 30 Nov 2006 3:49am @H.O: Hi H.O. thanks for the heads up on the chart too! Gnarf from Stockholm, SwedenI like this kind of "every day city life" pictures. I have seen other pictures from the japanese subway and I wonder how you manage to take them? I mean, doesnt people notice when pulling out your camera and start taking pictures of them? That is nothing I wanna try on the subway in my neighborhood, would probably get my ass kicked :) (excuse my language) 1 Dec 2006 4:03pm @Gnarf: hi Gnarf, thanks for the visit. as for the shooting method for candids I kind of gave my technique away in the comments to this picture (the reply to Damon Schreiber). Michelle Bialowas from Melbourne Victoria, AustraliaGreat series, I think my fav is the 2 image. Did you have a negative vibe from anyone while taking photo's of them on the train? Great work. 10 Dec 2006 12:58pm @Michelle Bialowas: Thanks Michelle. No negative vibes as yet, I do tend to try and pick my moment to be honest and try to fire the shots off quickly. |
