I love portraits which don't show the entire head. They seem less neutral for me.

@Michelle Bialowas: Thank you Michelle. Your comments are much appreciated and I'm glad you're enjoying my posts. You're always welcome.
I really enjoy taking portraits and I would like to ask for some advise; I've noticed you reallly capture texture and detail in a face, how far are you close to your subject? I tend to zoom with my lens in which leads to details being lost. Any tips?

@Michelle Bialowas: Hey Michelle, thank you so much for the comments, theyre very much appreciated. As for the distance between my subject and my lens, I try to get as close as possible purely in order to avoid any unneccessary cropping. With candid shots that's admittedly difficult to do, but If I want to retaain detail that's the best method. I use gradient maps to convert to black and white, I posted an example in the comments of this photo. (This action is for Photoshop). They can certainly help to bring out the textures and finer details of a subject. Tweaking around with the shadows/highlights and hard light filters can also help. Do you have photoshop?
