Cyrille from PARIS, FranceThey walk like this? why using ropes and not being completly barefoot? The photo has a great dynamic. Black and white is a good choice for the subject, it make me feel like there's some penitence. 9 Nov 2006 10:42am Suby from Milton Keynes, United KingdomEeeck do they actually walk like this? What are the ropes for? Is is not uncomfortable? Poor feet :) Suby 9 Nov 2006 11:21am Jason Kravitz from Brussels, BelgiumMan - those feet tell a story all right! Great shot 9 Nov 2006 11:30am Craig Persel from Montreal, CanadaPerfect. Love the "zooming in" on a detail to give us something unique and interesting. Bravo. 9 Nov 2006 12:18pm Shuva Brata Deb from Hyderabad, IndiaVery powerful message with this picture. I would love to know about about the context. 9 Nov 2006 1:45pm Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, Japan@ Shuva - I really wish I understood more about the intricacies regarding this mans way of life. I can however tell you a monks life can be a very bi-polar experience. On the one hand, many monks lifestyles conform to the majority of other countries/cultures ideas of a vocation devoted to the 'church'. On the other hand its not uncommon to see some monks running their temples as businesses (no suprise there) and (this is the bipolar bit) very openly parading their wealth. It all becomes very confusing when you see someone as pictured above, compared to another monk driving the new Nissan Skyline GTR Turbo with an IPOD and Nintendo DS in tow. I'll endeavour to find out more and give you more context through a future series. This monk however certainly wasnt in the IPOD bracket. 9 Nov 2006 2:33pm H.O from Victoria, CanadaYes, that truth Duncan-san :) when I was younger they confuse me ( not every one)many times... why you so rich??... 9 Nov 2006 2:38pm Ryan Yam from Quezon City, PhilippinesWow, it's cool that you were able to get so low to capture someones feet.. :) 9 Nov 2006 3:38pm Helen from Melbourne, AustraliaWonderful. Like Ryan, I have tried to picture you taking these photos, especially this one. 9 Nov 2006 6:33pm Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaQuite a powerful image, and it tells a great story all by itself (worth 1000 words at least). 9 Nov 2006 9:54pm Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, Japan@ everyone who posted.
