Kyoto Tower IIPosted by Duncan Galbraith (kyoto, Japan) on 30 October 2006 in Architecture and Portfolio. The tower really is a blight on the landscape of the city. Kyoto has building height restrictions which are rigorously imposed. The tower however was an exception to the rule. Apparantly Kyoto people wanted "something to be proud of" and to rival the likes of Tokyo Tower. Quite how a concrete monstrosity such as this ever got past the drawing board is beyond belief. As to why Kyoto people weren't content with living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which plays host to over 2000 temples within its borders is another head scratcher.
