Kyoto Tower II

The tower really is a blight on the landscape of the city. Kyoto has building height restrictions which are rigorously imposed. The tower however was an exception to the rule. Apparantly Kyoto people wanted "something to be proud of" and to rival the likes of Tokyo Tower. Quite how a concrete monstrosity such as this ever got past the drawing board is beyond belief. As to why Kyoto people weren't content with living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which plays host to over 2000 temples within its borders is another head scratcher.

Haha, that angle is genius! As I may have said before, I gave up trying to get a good angle on the tower when I was there...but then, I was kind of in a rush to get on my train. I like it more than the other one.

Yes...why aren't Kyoto people satisfied with their existent "towers"?

If you ever decide to do a "hundred views of Kyoto Tower" series (I'm thinking of Hokusai), definitely include this! I've actually thought about doing such a series with Toronto's CN tower.

Astounding! The temptation to create mediocre images using mirrors, particularly car mirrors is one I've often fallen into! This is an excellent example of how powerfully mirrors can be used to create very powerful images. I love the contrast of the tower with the background image - woman smiling - which is made even more powerful by your comment on the picture.
